What are nVIDIA GeForce MX and OpenGL?

So, I'm downloading "The Secret of the solstice," right. I'm updating it and I get a message:
nVIDIA GeForce MX or equivalent /
OpenGL ver1.2 or higher is required (or something like that)
Explain to me... what are these graphic card things? (Cos "good ol' Wiki ain't helping me)

a graphics card is the card inside your computer that is know as the GPU or graphics processing unit. so it basically process your graphics. that is about as simple as I can make it
